Five Minutes with...Katie Doherty & The Navigators

Posted on 7 December 2018

We caught up with award winning singer-songwriter Katie Doherty ahead of her appearance here at Sage Gateshead during New Year New Artists Festival on 17 January.

What can people expect from your show?
All the songs from our brand new album ‘And Then’ with some special guests and surprises. A real celebration of everything we’ve been working on for the past year and a bit.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
Probably too many to name and for many different reasons but the shortlist would contain Karine Polwart, Joni Mitchell, Guy Garvey, Ella Fitzgerald, Vin Garbutt.

Who is your favourite new musician?
Ohhhh, there are so many doing fantastic things at the moment. I really like Christine and The Queens…does she count?

What does performing at Sage Gateshead mean to you?
Sage Gateshead has been such a big part of my musical life, studying there back in the Folk degree days. It’s such a hub for hearing new music, I feel absolutely privileged to be included in this and perform in such a beautiful venue.

What’s coming up next for you?
Well, once the album is launched we will be touring in pockets throughout 2019 and then who knows…it kind of depends if people like it I suppose…if not, we’ll have to start making another one!
